The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marko Mihkelson met with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives Edward Royce. The two discussed ways to strengthen the relations between the European Union and the United States.

The parties agreed that extensive mutual cooperation must be continued for the benefit of strengthening the security of the region, combating terrorism, and ensuring cyber security, as well as trade relations. “We must use our strengths and boost these through cooperation in all areas,” Mihkelson said.

Mihkelson said that the Trans-Atlantic Free Trade Agreement was a corner stone of mutual relations, and that he hoped that the parties would reach a positive result through negotiations.

The sanctions against Russia were judged as necessary, and for better results should be targeting Russia’s energy sector.

Another topic was the importance of strategic communication. The parties agreed that active propaganda can only be countered with an open and analytical media.
