The Act on Amendments to the Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management System Act and Other Associated Acts  (800 SE), initiated by the Government, was passed with 82 votes in favour. It increases the efficiency, clarity and transparency of the proceedings of impact assessment, and the quality of the documentation.

The main purpose of the environmental impact assessment and environmental management system is to give the decision-maker (the issuer of the activity licence) and the body organising the drafting of the strategic planning document (the authority conducting the proceedings on the planning document) significant relevant information on the expected impact of the planned activity on the environment for making a decision on the issue of an activity licence or the establishment of a strategic planning document. This way, the public and other participants in the proceedings will also be able to better follow the whole proceedings.
