NATO  was founded in 1949 on the basis of the Washington Treaty.

The objectives of the delegation are as follows: to defend Estonia's foreign policy interests; to participate actively in PA events and the work of the committees; to guarantee that Estonia's security policy standpoints are defended and obligations in NATO are fulfilled.

Estonia became a full member of NATO on 29 March 2004.
