Estonia was a member of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU) from 1921 to 1940 and restored its membership in October 1991. With a delegation Estonia again takes part in IPU conferences since September 1992 or the 88th conference of the IPU.
IPU Estonian group works in accordance with the "Statutes and Rules" of the Interparliamentary Union and IPU Estonian group. For preparing for the conferences, three work groups are formed before each conference, who prepare the speeches and, in accordance with the decision of the work group, also the memorandums and draft resolutions. At the proposal of the work group, candidates are included in the delegation.
Delegation is formed before each conference and according to the "Statutes and Rules" no more than 8 members of the parliament belong to the delegation.
Estonian IPU Group (12th Riigikogu) was formed on May 10, 2011.
