VII Riigikogu
On September 20, 1992, the VII Riigikogu was elected on the basis of the Constitution adopted by a nation-wide referendum on June 28, 1992. The voters could cast their votes for political parties, electoral coalitions, associations, and also for independent candidates.

8 electoral coalitions, 5 parties, 39 associations, and 25 independent candidates advanced their candidatures for the membership of the Riigikogu. In total, 628 people were nominated for election.

67 per cent of the elective citizens participated in the election.

The electoral coalition Pro Patria Union received the greatest number of votes. The Pro Patria Union, together with the Mõõdukad and the Estonian National Independence Party, formed the Government. In the Riigikogu, a clear distribution of its Members between the coalition and opposition established itself. Ülo Nugis, MP from the list of candidates of the Pro Patria Union, was elected a President of the Riigikogu.
