Riigikogu

The Riigikogu passed with 80 votes in favour (3 against, 1 abstention) the Resolution of the Riigikogu “Appointment of Indrek Teder to Office of Chancellor of Justice” (192 OE), submitted by the President of the Republic. According to the reason provided by the President, the sworn advocate Indrek Teder is a lawyer with experience and recognition who knows very well the legal system and legal practice of Estonia and has constantly been in touch with the problems relating to constitutional review and the protection of fundamental rights in his professional activities. The Riigikogu appointed Indrek Teder to the office of the Chancellor of Justice for the term of seven years, starting from 7 March 2008.

On the motion of the Constitutional Committee, the Riigikogu rejected at the first reading (46 votes in favour, 9 votes against, 1 abstention) the Bill on Amendments to § 125 of the Political Parties Act (117 SE), initiated by the Estonian People’s Union Faction, with the intention of organising distribution of the funds allocated from the state budget between political parties registered in Estonia.
