Riigikogu

The Riigikogu concluded the first reading of the Bill on Amendments to the Food Act and Associated Acts (878 SE), initiated by the Government of the Republic. The requirements established on food are mostly regulated by the legal acts of the European Union. With the passage of the Act, terminological conflicts between the Food Act and the EU regulations will be eliminated, the Act will be amended pursuant to the EU law; more efficient regulation and smooth implementation of the sphere, and the improvement of surveillance will be ensured. Minister of Agriculture Ester Tuiksoo, who introduced the Bill, pointed out that bringing the Food Act into conformity with the EU legislation was also important allowing the food produced in Estonia to circulate freely on the common market of the European Union.

On the motion of the Finance Committee, the first reading of the Bill on Amendments to the Land Tax Act (838 SE), initiated by the Isamaaliit Faction, was not concluded. 50 members of the Riigikogu were in favour of the motion of the Finance Committee, 26 against it. The Bill was withdrawn from legislative proceeding.
