President of the Nordic Council Karin Åström and President of the Baltic Assembly Laine Randjärv condemned the use of force and violence in Kyiv to disperse protesters who over the last weeks have expressed their support for Ukraine’s integration into the European Union.

Continued pressure on the democratic principles of Ukraine’s citizens, including their rights to assemble and speak freely, as well as use of force goes against the principles of democracy, rule of law and civil society and the principles to which all participants agreed during the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius in November 2013.
