The Chairmen of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the parliaments of the Nordic Countries and Baltic States met in Trakai, in Lithuania, to discuss the future of the EU’s Eastern Partnership policy and the security challenges of the Nordic-Baltic region.

The decisions made at the NATO Wales Summit and their implementation in connection with the changed security situation in the Nordic and Baltic region was one of the focal issues of the discussions. The latest developments in the Arctic region and their influence on the Nordic-Baltic region were also spoken about.

“Naturally the analysis of the security situation in our immediate region became the most important issue at the meeting. Our Swedish colleague gave the latest overview of the ongoing military operation of their armed forces near Stockholm, and NATO’s activities in connection with the changed security situation in Europe were discussed,” Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu Marko Mihkelson said.

He added that today there are no more taboo issues connected with security when we discuss it with our Nordic partners, especially Finland and Sweden.
